This last Saturday marked the 1 year anniversary of our good friends at Saratoga Jewlery Co. in Lindon, UT, (they're just barely South of the Wal*Mart). I've always loved trade and think it is part of the heart of a robust economy. Often times people would love to get a nice gift for their loved one but don't have the cash to pay for it. I've traded tungsten rings for guns, tile labor, framing, electrical, and bobcat/excavation work and been thrilled to do so. I'm currently part of two trade organizations built to facilitate trade and make it easy for everyone. One of these organizations, however, one is becoming expensive and corrupt.

We had a cabinet fall off our wall a few weeks ago and consequently had to buy new dishes. I thought I would pick them up on trade and save some cash. I had built up quite a few trade dollars in my account and thought it would be a good chance to burn through some. The dishes cost me $45 trade per set. I went to pick them up and thought I'd get two boxes instead of one. I went to grab another one off the shelf, and they were priced at $14.50 cash price. Less than one-third what I was paying in trade dollars, which are supposed to be equivalent.

The reason I joined this same trade organization was to have my landscaping done this spring. I got some bids from some companies in the organization, but they said they would only do the labor on trade and that I'd have to pay for the materials in cash. Their materials cost came out to about $3000, and it was going to cost another $3000 in trade to have it done. I went and got some bids independent of my trade organization and the lowest came in at $3150....including materials AND labor. It also included bringing in topsoil, which the trade bids did not.

I feel like I'm being pessimistic, which is not my intent. I still love trade! I still don't love dishonest people. Bring me something cool or a unique labor you can perform if you need a tungsten ring and we'll swap!

Funny Story...

I learn something new everyday. Today my lessons have come regarding lcd televisions, mounting them on the wall, and hooking them up properly. I've spent hours in the attic, and then up on the roof, getting our HDTV antenna hooked up properly. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. FINALLY, I watched an instructional video on YouTube showing me how to properly prepare and hookup RG-6 coaxial cable. I re-did all my connections and now it's working like a charm.

We attended a bridal show at the Grand Hall in the Gateway Center yesterday and the most common question to arise was still concerning the white and black ceramic bands. Most people immediately shy away, thinking they will be weak and break. At first, I was also skeptical with thoughts returning to things I'd made in high school pottery classes. This new high tech ceramic is something TOTALLY different though. I've now been wearing ceramic bands for almost a year now to test the durability, and haven't been able to even scratch them yet.

Here is a list of other materials being made from this new and lightweight ceramic material:

Of course, if any of these things were even remotely close to a mid century Chinese vase, they just wouldn't serve any purpose. We can clearly see that this is a material superior to many others and also completely hypo-allergenic. Once you try one on, you'll be a believer.

There are also still many people searching for black tungsten rings. The black portion is a plating that will wear and scratch off over time, exposing the gray metal beneath. Ceramic rings, on the other hand, are the same color all the way through, and will stay looking new for years to come. We're happy to order you in a black tungsten ring, but can't offer the same warranties, because of their inferiority to their ceramic ring counterparts.

We've had a lot of requests for white ceramic wedding bands lately. They are definitely a bold statement and look gorgeous. I ordered myself in one a few weeks ago and am going to wear it for a while to see what kind of comments I get and also to put it to the test. It will have to stand up to everything involved with building a house. So far, it has made it through framing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, mud/tape, and paint...still going strong and looking like new.

Under normal conditions, the temperature of the human body can vary slightly. However, as the fingers are at the end of our hands and limbs, their temperatures can change significantly. Different healthy people in the same ambient temperature can see a 1-5 Celsius degree change dependent upon their differing energy state

at that time.
If a humans body temperature is somewhat low, one is often short on energy. When the human body has a fever, it will also be amplified towards the fingers.
Wedding Rings Forever now offers a stylish ring which monitors the temperature of the body in an easy to read display on your finger. This "healthy ring" monitors the real time temperature of the finger to help people pay attention to their temperature if it reaches an abnormal state. It serves as a constant reminder to keep our bodies in a healthy state. When the healthy ring is put on, it quickly absorbs the finger temperature and provides a constant reference.

The advantages of this ring are many. Not only is it fun to constantly know your temperature and see how it reacts in different circumstances, but you'll also never be at a loss searching for a thermometer if you're feeling unwell. If you want to monitor your temperature while feeling unwell, simply remove your ring and place it in your armpit for 3 minutes. If the ring shows a temperature over 38 degrees Celsius, you may have caught a fever. You should measure again with a professional thermometer or see a physician. The health ring is never meant to substitute as a professional medical device.

The most suitable temperature for humans is 17 to 27 degrees Celsius. If you are in an environment outside these zones, make a fist for 3 minutes and you should still get an accurate body temperature reading. If there is still no display, you should return to an environment that is more suitable for comfortable human living.

One can also place the ring on a necklace to make a body temperature gauge. Use it to measure the temperature of a babies bottle. Hang it in your room in the summertime to measure the ambient temperature. The possibilities are endless, just remember it serves as a monitor from 27 to 39 degrees Celsius.

Notes to consider: Please do not touch sources of heat or cold while measuring your finger temperature. Please remove the ring when washing your hands and/or applying lotion. Never place the ring in an environment over 50 degrees Celsius. Please avoid scraping the ring on any hard surface. Any of the above circumstances would void any warranty and could damage the LCD readout display.

A story about the man’s engagement ring has been on Nightline recently. Celebrities are getting in on it too. Jennifer Hudson said she spent 15,000 on a male engagement ring for her boyfriend Daid Otunga. Then Brides.com conducted a survey and found that 55 percent of women surveyed wouldn’t buy their fiancés engagement rings. But 45 percent said they would.

It’s officially a trend.

During high school I always used to wait until the night before a big assignment was due. Often times I did this on purpose, though it drove my mom nuts. For this reason, people have turned to titanium, the lighter brother of tungsten. The only disadvantage is seen after a year or so when the ring begins to scratch and lose its finish. Now one can find the best of both worlds with the release of new lightweight tungsten rings.

Should I Insure My Wedding Ring?

Many people wonder why or if they should insure their wedding or engagement ring. It is common to insure life, our automobiles, health, or other large investments. However, wedding jewelery is different because it is both a monetary and sentimental investment. Ultimately it is a personal decision, and I'm not here to sell you insurance. It is difficult to predict the circumstances that might befall your wedding band, and even household chores can damage the common ring. The most common reasons most people do choose to insure their wedding rings are to prevent against damage, theft, or loss.

There are insurance policies that protect against just these things. A ring can become damaged and it is possible it might drop a stone, warp out of round, or have to be removed in a hand or finger emergency. At Wedding Rings Forever we replace all our tungsten rings, even if they have to be removed by a medical professional. For others, you might pay a deductible, but the rest would be covered.

It's no secret that the first things thieves look for are engagement and wedding rings to make off with a quick loot. They can be sold at pawn shops or even over internet and mail systems. Once gone, they are hard to recover. When the police give up, theft policies help recover the financial loss.

Movies and sitcoms have always included in the plot scenes about losing wedding rings. Whether it be down the sink or air vent, it can happen. Maybe you were swimming in the ocean or just in a pool. Needless to say, these are also the most expensive of the bunch.

Actual Value policies replace the cash value of your ring, minus any depreciation. This would be similar to buying a new car and insuring its value. This is the least expensive and the most popular choice for most new couples.

A Replacement policy would replace your ring with the exact same one, regardless of what it cost to do so. This can be a good policy if the price of gold or diamonds rises. As the value of your ring increases and decreases, so does the value to replace it.

The majority of Homeowners policies allow you to claim valuable assets which usually can include jewelry. The disadvantage to this is that it doesn't cover damage, or anything that happens outside the home. It does cover, however, fires, tornadoes, and theft from inside the home.

All competent jewelers should have plenty of references for where to send you for insurance on your new engagement ring. Remember to have it appraised when you first purchase it, and they'll usually do it for free as an added bonus.

Should I Choose Palladium or Platinum For My Wedding Ring

Platinum is often considered the best there is, and with good cause. It can make diamonds sparkle like no other metal can and is much harder than white gold. But if you can't afford the platinum price tag, than palladium is a good option to consider.

The main benefit of palladium over platinum wedding rings is price. Platinum is a much more dense metal than both gold and palladium, and thus weighs a lot more. Usually, you are paying for weight with precious metals. They are most often sold on commodity markets by the troy ounce. While the volume may be the same for both a platinum, white gold, and palladium ring, the weight and density of the platinum ring will be almost double, along with the price tag.

Both palladium and platinum offer superb stone security when setting diamonds, much better than that of white gold. The prongs have very minimal spring back and both metals seem to wear well for this application.

Wedding rings made of palladium and platinum are also both very pure metals, usually 95% pure with the remaining 5% being ruthenium or iridium. This is great for those who need hypo-allergenic rings, as both metals will be far less likely to cause allergic reaction than those of white gold. Palladium is usually marked 950PD while platinum carries the mark PT950.

In our experience, both metals wear well. Palladium is a naturally white metal, just as platinum is, and will look shiny and new as long as you clean and polish is regularly. Platinum also requires maintenance, though not as often. However, the maintenance is more intensive and takes longer when you get it done. Over many years the cost will be a wash, but platinum will likely save you a few trips to the jewelery store.

Chances are that if you're looking for a palladium or platinum wedding band you don't want to consider white gold. However, there are some options that have presented themselves with recent technology that give white gold the same advantages as palladium and platinum with a similar price tag. These new white golds stay white and don't need rhodium plating. They are often referred to as precise white gold rings. Our favorite is the new X1 white gold from Stuller. This is available by request in most our gold bands at Wedding Rings Forever. This metal ranks just below platinum on the "whiteness" scale and just above palladium.

For now it still seems that platinum is a superior choice for luster and wear. It is also a completely inert metal that will not react, meaning no oxidation or tarnish. However, the new X1 white gold and 950PD palladium will certainly be competitors coming into the future.

Can Tungsten Rings Be Cut Off?

Tungsten rings can easily be removed in emergency situations, though the method most effective does not include "cutting" it off. The only tool one will need is a standard pair of vice grip style locking pliers, and we will explain exactly how to remove a tungsten band if it will not slide off in the normal fashion. Do not attempt to use standard ring cutters.

Place the vice grip–style locking pliers over the tungsten ring and adjust the jaws to clamp lightly. Release and adjust tightener one-third turn and then clamp again. Repeat until a crack is heard, and then continue clamping in different positions until the hard material breaks away. Take care not to slide or rotate the cracked ring on the finger. If the tungsten ring contains an inlay of gold, the exposed gold can then be cut or clipped in the usual fashion.

Usually medical situations in which this becomes a necessity include excessive weight gain and hand injuries. When we have seen wedding bands be removed in the past, it is almost always because they have bent out of round or been smashed, making it incredibly uncomfortable and painful for the person wearing the ring. Tungsten carbide wedding bands will never bend. In fact, if you were to drop something very heavy on it or slam it in the trunk of your car, it would break before it would bend, and simply fall off your finger. In this case, you would likely be safer wearing a tungsten ring than that made with precious metals.

Remember, the safest thing to do is just remove your tungsten band when you're lifting weights, rock climbing, or anything of the sort.

The Colors and Karats of Gold

Sometimes shopping for gold can be confusing. Should you get 14K or 18K? What does the karat of gold mean anyway? What is the difference between white, rose, and yellow colored gold? Let us explore the advantages and disadvantages of different colors and karats of gold jewelry.

We'll start at the beginning. Gold has been used as early as 2600 B.C. and shown in Egyptian hieroglyphs of the same time period. People have spent their entire lives traveling to the ends of the Earth in search for this precious metal.

The system of karats simply shows the purity of gold. 24 karat gold is considered 99.9% pure and any other karat of gold can be divided by 24 to give its percentage purity. For example, 14 karat gold is 58.3% pure. (14 / 24 = .583) Another common example is 18 karat gold which is 75% pure. (18 / 24 = .75) The purity of any gold can be found by plugging into this simple math formula. Hence, the higher the karat of gold, the more pure it is, and the more expensive it is.

This begs the question of what else makes up the other percentage of jewelry when 10K, 14K and 18K gold is most widely used in the industry?

Gold alloys are used and created to alter the malleability, color, melting point, and most importantly, hardness. 24K pure gold is very soft and when used in jewelry is damaged very easily. The other percentage of jewelry in lower karat gold is most often made of copper, giving it a red hue. Silver and palladium is also used, along with nickel and in rare cases iron and aluminum. High karat gold alloys are much more resistant to corrosion and tarnish than sterling silver, but should still be maintained and cleaned professionally and on a regular basis depending on how often your jewelry is being worn and used.

Rose gold gets its hue from a higher percentage of copper used in the jewelry, usually taking place of silver. It matches some skin tones wonderfully and contrasts all diamonds. It is also regaining popularity again in our time.

White gold can most often be broken into two categories. There are those that use nickel and those that use palladium to "bleach" out the yellow.

While nickel has the strongest bleaching abilities, a rare percentage of the population are allergic to nickel. While Europe has developed regulatory laws stating how much nickel may be used in jewelry, the US has not and it is important that you consider using a jeweler that is reputable and not always just the cheapest.

When palladium is used as the bleaching agent, there are no allergic issues but the price goes up as it is a more precious metal falling into the platinum group.

This informative article is meant to educate those shopping for a wedding band. Often times the diamond education and "The 4 C's" is pushed so much that we forget the importance of the rest of the ring holding the diamond. With this knowledge one can hope to find a wedding ring that will truly make them happy forever.

What is Rhodium Plating and Why Should I Do It?

To understand why one should care to rhodium plate their jewelry, we first must understand a few things about rhodium itself. Rhodium is a rare, silver to white metal, that comes from the platinum group in the periodic table. It is one of the most expensive metals, at almost twice the price of platinum and three to four times the cost of gold. Rhodium has an extremely high reflectivity and doesn't normally form an oxide, even when heated.

There are various reasons to rhodium plate our jewelry, especially wedding bands and rings.

Many times white gold is rhodium plated to enhance the reflectivity of the ring and make the diamonds look more brilliant. Because rhodium is a "noble metal" and inert, it withstands corrosion and makes jewelry more durable as well.

Most often jewelers will use a small amount of palladium or nickel to bleach yellow gold and turn it into "white gold." The issue arising here is that the white gold is more of a pale yellow than bright white. When the rhodium plating is applied, it makes the ring more attractive and reflective. This process is called electroplating and usually leaves a protective coating about the thickness of a micron on standard 14k white gold. The common term for this in the jewelery industry is rhodium flashing.

The rhodium plating will eventually wear off and should be reapplied every couple years. This will be evidenced on the portions of the ring that receive the most wear and start to look the pale yellow color instead of bright white. To prevent this, choose a jeweler that uses a brighter white gold to start with, and the contrast will be much less. Rhodium plating should be a free process from whatever jeweler you decide to purchase your ring from.

Why Do Rings Turn My Skin Green?

After last weeks post about allergic reactions to rings and bands, I had many people ask me why I didn't mention anything about rings turning their fingers green.

When a wedding band or any ring for that matter turns your skin a different color, most often green or black, this is usually not an allergic reaction. It is simply the ring reacting to the air, your finger, and other factors such as perspiration.

Copper jewelry turns your skin green. Most people will say, "I don't own any copper jewelry." However, though most people don't wear pure copper jewelry, it may be present in high enough levels to cause this reaction in other metals, such as 10K gold.

Sterling sliver is usually between 7-8% copper, but most stains are usually black because sterling silver is prone to tarnishing. It can be plated with other metals to help, but eventually these platings wear off exposing the base metal.

Gold rings hardly ever stain our skin, it's the other metals present within that cause the problem. Often times silver, copper, and nickel are used to strengthen gold and make it more economical. The lower the karat of gold, (10K, 14K, 18K, and 24K are the most common), the lower the concentration of pure gold in the jewelry. In the United States, 10K gold only has to be 41.7% pure gold, making the rest of the ring something that could cause this reaction with your skin. While some people are allergic to 10K gold, they may be able to solve their problems by simply wearing 18K gold instead.

After all is said and done, there are some simple methods to avoid the dreaded green stain on your skin. Here is a list of the best ones we've created to fit any budget.

#1 - Platinum rings rarely reacts with skin because they should be 95% pure platinum. Though expensive, platinum is the best there is.

#2 - Try switching to a higher karat gold, such as 18K or 24K gold.

#3 - Stainless steel and titanium are cheap and normally won't cause allergic reactions or discoloration.

#4 - Look for jewelry specifically labeled hypo-allergenic.

#5 - Coat your jewelry with clear nail polish where it comes in contact with your skin.

#6 - Keep your skin dry and clean where you wear your jewelry.

#7 - Simply don't wear the pieces of jewelry that offend your skin 24/7.

How To Solve Allergic Reactions To Wedding Bands

From time to time people will get allergic reactions to their wedding bands. The skin underneath the band may become red, bumpy, and itchy. This may happen the day after you first wear it, or three years down the road. Why does this happen to some people and what causes these reactions?

As we grow our body chemistry changes, and as such, we can become allergic to certain metals. Certain rings are also often plated with gold, rhodium, or silver, which can wear down exposing metals underneath which we are allergic to when they surface. Very rarely are we allergic to the metal which the ring is based on, such as gold, but rather to the trace metals used to strengthen it such as copper and nickel. Often times our skin is irritated because it does not receive any air being under the ring 24/7/365.

How do we solve these problems and prevent future allergic reactions when buying jewelry? There are a few options we can turn to for those with this problem.

#1 - Remove your wedding band and carefully wash your hands, in particular between your fingers. Then wash your ring with water to get off all the lotion, soap, sweat and other nasty stuff off it that gets trapped in there. Keep your ring off for a few days until your skin clears up. Do your best not to itch your finger, and if you can't resist buy some hydro cortisone creme for relief. If this solves your problem try wearing the ring again, but take it off when you sleep so your skin can breathe.

#2 - If the above remedy fails to work, you're most likely allergic to one of the metals in the band. If this is the case, do one of the following:
a) Coat the inside of the ring with clear nail polish and allow to dry completely.
b) Visit a jeweler to have your ring plated.
c) Visit an allergist to find out which metal you're allergic to and buy a ring without that metal.

The safest metals to buy if you are often allergic to jewelry are ones that are pure and ones marked hypo-allergenic. Titanium is almost always a safe bet and is used in many surgical instruments. Ceramic rings are also allergic to less than .001% of the human population and are almost as scratch resistant as tungsten. 24K gold is also good but weak and easy to damage. Anything less than 24K gold will have the same alloys in it that you're allergic to right now. It's also spendy. 950 Platinum is the very best there is, and one we recommend at Wedding Rings Forever.

From time to time I go onto Yahoo Answers to see if I can help answer any questions having to do with wedding bands. I often see questions regarding the difference between a black tungsten ring and a black ceramic ring. Here is the main difference.

Black tungsten rings are PLATED black. This plating can and will scratch off, exposing the natural tungsten color beneath it.

Black ceramic rings are black all the way through and thus if it scratches only exposes more black. Ceramic rings are also incredibly tough and the much better option if you want to go black.

Usually they don't even want to say, but it's almost always about $300 to $400. They've been duped by the jeweler in the mall or on the corner of Main Street. So how do you avoid getting ripped off when shopping in an industry that has one of the highest markups on the planet Earth? We suggest the following guidelines.

#1 - If a deal is too good to be true, it's too good to be true. I can't believe people are thinking they found the deal of the century when they buy a "genuine" Rolex online for $68 only to be floored when they take it into a real Rolex shop to find out it's not the same as the $8500 one behind the glass. Come on people!

#2 - Check out the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org to check the validity of the company. Even if a company is not accredited it will still show if they have had any complaints in the last year. I NEVER buy anything online anymore without checking the BBB first. If a company doesn't list themselves on there, don't you think it might be for a reason?

#3 - Testimonials saying, "I was so satisfied with the customer service of company x because they took care of me and the product was wonderful and I want them to marry my first born daughter and blah, Blah, BLAH," are a load of bunk. People just don't write this type of think very often and if they do it's probably because they were asked to. How are you ever going to verify that Lisa from Westchestertonfieldville, Iowa really wrote that anyway?

#4 - Click on their security certificate. Simple Simon. Is it from a company you recognize or can verify on Google? When you're entering your credit card information does it say https:// instead of http://? (The "s" stands for secure).

#5 - Call the phone number listed. If there is no phone number or someone answers speaking Swahili, good luck. You've been warned.

#6 - Try out there customer response email. Is their email address joecoxhulahips@gmail.com or is it service@weddingringsforever.com?

#7 - Don't buy from the first place you see unless you're happy paying a higher price knowing it's EXACTLY what you want. What ever happened to comparison shopping? I always feel sorry for those couples I see drive away with a new car from the first lot they stopped at.

#8 - Internet sales are usually just a marketing ploy. What you find is a good deal today will still be a good deal tomorrow. Don't be afraid to sleep on it. Sales never end, they just change shape and form.

#9 - MSRP is a scam. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is usually founded upon a survey, not what people are actually willing to pay. Anyone can go around and eventually find some crack head willing to pay $295 for a pair of sneakers that just cost $2 to import from China. At Wedding Rings Forever we only use list price comparisons, and they're actually based upon other prices we find our competitors selling the same products for. You may look at the list prices and say, "That's ridiculous..." because it is beyond me how people can charge so much for what I know doesn't cost so much. You usually end up paying for their commercials, advertising, commercial building lease, and other overhead that we've been able to avoid.

#10 - Number 10 could be a whole other slew of reasons but I will just sum is up with BE SMART. If you have to enter your Social Security Number to buy a blouse, is that smart? If you agree to help the Prince of Nigeria wire 8 billion dollars to his bank in Omaha to help his dying sister, is that smart? If someone contacts you asking for all your personal information rather than you seeking that product out, is that smart? I would expect more from the savvy internet generation we live in.

Just recently we received some sample black and white ceramic rings from our technicians, and they look great! While not as hard and scratch proof as tungsten carbide rings, ceramic is very close. This is not what clay pots are made out of! This high tech ceramic is the same thing airplane wings are built of. All our ceramic rings will be special order for the time being. Our products at Wedding Rings Forever are all made of the highest quality and craftsmanship. We have two grades of tungsten rings, light tungsten carbide and normal tungsten carbide. Many people have expressed they feel the main drawback of tungsten rings are the heavy weight, so we decided to implement the light rings. They are composed of the following:

W (Tungsten): 42-48%
Ti (Titanium): 32-44%
Ni (Nickel): 16-18%
Nb (Niobium): 1%
Ta (Tantalum): .5-.7%
Cr (Chromium): 1-2.5%

A traditional ring would simply swap out any Titanium with Tungsten making it slightly more vulnerable, but gaining Titanium's lightweight qualities.

Do I need a brand name ring for it to be "real" tungsten?

Many people have asked me if their ring needs to say TUNGSTEN FOREVER or have a brand mark on the inside to know if it is quality or not. The answer is NO! Anyone can mark or laser engrave anything they want on the inside of their rings, including a simple phrase like Tungsten Forever. We leave our rings blank so that you can engrave it with whatever is most important to you. A nice idea is your wedding anniversary so that you never forget.

To reiterate, the important thing about your tungsten ring is what it's made of. Ask for a build sheet of what materials and the percentage of each material that goes into your tungsten carbide wedding band. Stay tuned for our build sheet in the next post!

Is tungsten hypoallergenic?
Tungsten carbide is 100% hypoallergenic and allergy free and will not produce skin irritation or discoloration. Tungsten does not react to sunlight, salt water, chlorine or anything that the body emits. Wedding Rings Forever uses solid tungsten carbide with confidence knowing that anyone can wear it without the concern of an adverse reaction to your body. Tungsten carbide rings require other metals to be used as a "binder", with cobalt and nickel being the two most common. While cobalt is cheaper, it will cause the tungsten to oxidize over time, and cause spots to appear on the metal that cannot be removed. This is why we only use nickel as a binder. Tungsten - like titanium - actually bonds to the nickel molecules, preventing them from leeching into the skin. This is why tungsten is hypoallergenic.

Nickel Allergy / Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Many people know that some metals can produce reactions on a person’s skin, including rashes and even blistering. This fact sheet will endeavour to explain why this occurs, and provide other resources and updates.

Nickel is without doubt the primary reason people experience skin reactions when wearing jewelery. The following quotes are excerpts from the Queensland Department of Health’s fact sheet on nickel in jewelery: “The most common adverse health effect associated with wearing jewelery that contains nickel is a type of skin irritation called allergic contact dermatitis. A person can develop an allergy to nickel following repeated contact with nickel found in jewelery. Sweat from the skin acts as a corrosive to metals, which allows nickel in jewelery to be in direct contact with the skin. Once a person is sensitized to nickel, any further contact with nickel will cause an allergic reaction. Nickel sensitivity is usually persistent for life.

What to do in an emergency!

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Hopefully you never have to do this, but it's always good to be knowledgeable in case you do. Also, with a high quality tungsten carbide wedding ring this is no big deal!
Rings made of extremely hard materials, like tungsten carbide or ceramic, can only be
removed by cracking them into pieces with standard vice grip–style locking pliers. Standard ring cutters will not work.
Place vice grip–style locking pliers over ring and adjust the jaws to clamp lightly. Release and adjust tightener one-third turn and then clamp again. Repeat until a crack is heard, and then continue clamping in different positions until the hard material breaks away. Take care not to slide or rotate the cracked ring on the finger. If the tungsten ring contains an inlay of gold, the exposed gold can then be cut or clipped in the usual fashion.
Remember, the safest thing to do is just remove your tungsten band when you're lifting weights, rock climbing, or anything of the sort.

Our objective is to post valuable information that will educate and shed light on the many choices of wedding bands a consumer has available to choose from in our world today. The vast majority of men's and women's rings we stand behind are made of tungsten carbide. Allow me to explain why.

If you're in the market for tungsten rings, you probably already know that they're the new industry standard for quality. They have been referred to as the "Permanently Polished Ring." But not all tungsten is created equally. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the tungsten rings at Wedding Rings Forever upholds the following standards most companies choose to ignore.

Our rings are cobalt free. This is VERY important! Most people are fooled by cheaper rings which contain cobalt and take away the qualities of true tungsten carbide. Allergic reactions are also frequently caused by cobalt.
Our rings are 10 times harder than 18K Gold, 5 times harder than tool steel, and 4 times harder than titanium. Tungsten measures between 8 and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. (Diamonds are a 10 - the highest.)
Tungsten carbide wedding rings will not bend, scratch, or warp in any way. They are the toughest rings on the planet and will truly last FOREVER.
